Warm Temps = Fun Days on the Slopes - Posted 02/04/2016
It's been just about a week now with the temperature highs reaching into the 50's. Leading into last weekend (Jan 30 & 31) we had over 55 inches of snow on the ground. By the time Monday rolled around, we had lost quite a bit of snow, taking our totals down about 17 inches. Tuesday's thunderstorms and wind didn't help conditions either.
Believe it or not, even with all of that snow lost, we still have enough snow to have ALL TRAILS OPEN. Our Mountain Operations and Grooming team did an excellent job putting the slopes back together on Wednesday. Our groomers pushed a lot of snow, bringing our reserve piles from the bottom of the hill to the top. Side note: When we make snow and groom, we plan for warm spells like this. Those reserves we speak of are the smaller hills of snow you ski and ride over in between the top and bottom.
Our plan moving forward: Tonight has marginal snow making temps. Hopefully conditions will allow us to make snow. Either way, we don't anticipate any changes for the weekend. We are 100% operational now and should be over the weekend. Since last night through the weekend, the night time lows are getting below freezing, which means the snow hardens back up, the melting is stopped, and it takes a lot longer to reach the melting point the following day.
This Saturday and Sunday are going to be beautiful days to ski, snowboard, and snow tube. Take this opportunity to get out of the house and soak up the sun. Don't forget sunscreen!
Next week, starting Monday night, the cold temps come back. In the beginning of the week, the daytime highs don't make it above freezing. You know what that means.... A Great time to turn on the guns and rebuild our base... just in time for President's Holdiay Weekend!
